Proof you can’t trust Google Adwords’ location settings

Are your location settings on Google Adwords losing you serious money? It’s quite possible. I just did a search for ‘plumber’. Here’s what I saw:

Now this would be really useful if I lived in Waterlooville, and not 2 hours’ drive away in Somerset….

So what’s the solution? Target by location, because in many cases the results will be accurate. But do not bid on generic keywords hoping that Google will only show your ads to people in your area, because the above example proves that they might not, and you WILL lose money because your average Google searcher WILL click on one of these ads, and will not be likely to convert.

Comments/thoughts welcome…
